The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of California San Francisco is offering postdoctoral positions to qualified applicants in the field of prion biology. Successful candidates will be expected to perform research on mammalian prions as well as write fellowship applications and manuscripts describing their results. Mentors include Fred Cohen, Stephen DeArmond, Robert Fletterick, Kurt Giles, Jeffery Long, Alexander Pines and Stanley Prusiner. To be eligible, candidates must have a PhD degree in biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology or neuroscience.

Dr. Stanley Prusiner of the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a Drug Discovery Manager (Adjunct Assistant Professor) to oversee and maintain the Prusiner Lab's high-throughput drug screening efforts. The successful candidate will manage a number of cell-based drug screens to identify and validate drug leads against prion disease while maintaining the resources and equipment necessary to sustain a continuous screening effort. This position is expected to organize and analyze relevant data and communicate the findings to other scientists at the IND and UCSF through regular meetings and reports. The position also assists in the coordination of efforts with teams conducting chemical biology, PK/PD and animal efficacy studies of lead compounds.

The primary role of the Drug Discovery Manager is to provide hands-on management, administration and leadership to cross-functional research teams in order to ensure that projects are on-time and within budget. Responsibilities of the position include directing and overseeing the performance of laboratory operations, data management, medical writing, resource management and quality control. The Drug Discovery Manager also provides timely project status information and serves as the key operational interface between the Director, senior scientists and research project teams.
